Welcome to the Nourishing Noobs!!
Hi! I’m Hollie, a Registered Holistic Nutritionist currently in Coquitlam, British Columbia!
Back in the day I got approximately my 1 billionth concussion playing hockey… which resulted in short term memory loss and ultimately my permanent removal from contact sports (I played hockey and soccer competitively)… (And in case you’re wondering YES people other than Sidney Crosby do also get concussions sometimes). This unfortunate accident resulted in a whole lot of nothing for the good part of a year and in order to find something to fill the emptiness from sports being taken away from me I took up cooking… and fell in LOVE. Since then (about 5 years ago now) I’ve developed an incredible passion for food and use it constantly as my therapy.
Fast forward a few years and I was the stereotypical university student living on caffeine and no sleep and I was an absolute disaster. I had crazy anxiety, stress and on top of that migraines (which I’ve suffered from since I was really young). After my third year I had basically a crisis and hit my breaking point… I was tired of feeling terrible and just had really lost a lot of my “Hollie-ness” (which is actually contagious…in case you were wondering). I decided that summer I was going to take a year off from University and I was going to take a leap of faith and pursue my passion (food.). So I enrolled at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition… and I can honestly say I have seen a 180 degree turn around in my life. I was able to learn the tools that allowed me to detect my gluten allergy (which turns out was actually an undetected trigger for my migraines all my life…), increase my energy levels, manage my stress and anxiety and gave me the motivation to start exercising regularly again.
I was one of those people that had to hit the wall to recognize that what I had accepted as “just how it is” wasn’t how I wanted my life to be… so I made the changes (and it wasn’t easy) but trust me when I say it is worth every second of the “grinding it out” stage.
My goal is to inspire people to know that making changes to live a healthy and holistic life doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive or any of the other things that I myself was convinced of that just resulted in me staying glued in the exact same spot in my life.
It takes work, it takes desire, it takes enthusiasm and it takes a WHOLE LOT of humour (I use sarcasm like it’s my job.) but in the end it is WORTH IT.
